makeup: where to start?
I didn't know where to begin when I first got into makeup. I've only touched drugstore brands and apparently, poor quality eye shadows, brushes, you name it! I remember walking into Sephora, Mac, any makeup department store.. to be overwhelmed by all of the products. At the end of the day, I went home with nothing. So considering I'm not loaded with cash, what products should you start out with then branch out?
What brushes are a must need?
Is there a brand/product that's quality doesn't match the $?
Fill me in.

Let me know what kind of look, or looks, you would be interested in (or if you're open to all ideas and up for anything). I'll do my best to assist!

A good one would be Lise watier, (i think that's how you spell her name)
again, since you have oily skin (read in the liquid eyeliner thing) is to still apply the powder onto your eyelids, and if you do some of your makeup on the bottom, like under, then do that too or it will end up on your cheeks (:okay, so anyways. that eyeliner I mention is VERY good. All her products are, it's for 20$ at drugstores. I live in Canada, so wherever you live might be different. (: -
@two_days_until_forever - I'm open to all ideas basically :D
@gibberztheg00@xanga - I looked up for the US. It seems to be available in an Institute haha

@CrissySomedays - oh, lol. I get mine @ drugstores for 20. (;

@CrissySomedays - Okay, great! For basic products, it all depends on what you want to use. If your skin is in pretty good condition (few to no blemishes or discoloration), then you can simply use a light tinted moisturizer - I recommend either Sephora's Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15, $18, or Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer, a pricier $42 (but you save a huge deal if you invest in Laura's Flawless Face Kit, which offers the best of her products, brushes, and tools at $65) - with a very light powder - Bare Escentuals Foundation, $25, or Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder, $30. It's really important to get a powder that sets your makeup without giving a tacky powdery finish. But if your skin is in good condition, you don't really need to spend too much money on it. However, it is needs some coverage, you'll want to pay a little more so it's not obvious that you're using a ton of products. If your skin needs more coverage, you'll want a good concealer (I really like products by Make Up For Ever or AmazingCosmetics) and a foundation (I really like Clinique's Supermoisture makeup, $22.50). You can use a damp sponge, a kabuki or flat foundation brush, the BeautyBlender wedge, $20, or your own fingers for foundation application. You want a small, flat concealer brush for application. Q-tips are also great for cleaning up any areas.
For brushes, really try to invest in brushes from MAC, Shu Uemura, or Sephora. (Although Sonia Kashuk at Target has amazing affordable brushes!) I'm going to give you links to brushes from Sephora so you know what kind of brushes are great to have (you may not need all of these):
For facial powder: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P188223&categoryId=C17386&shouldPaginate=true
Kabuki brush for foundation: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P188224&categoryId=C17386&shouldPaginate=true
Flat foundation brush: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P188221&categoryId=C17386&shouldPaginate=true
Blush brush: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P188217&categoryId=C17386&shouldPaginate=true
Secondary blush brush (for a more contoured look): http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P188205&categoryId=C17386&shouldPaginate=true

Eyebrow comb: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P195709&categoryId=C17387&shouldPaginate=true

Eyeliner brush: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P188210&categoryId=C17387&shouldPaginate=true
You can always start out with sets, though. Clean your brushes regularly with a specialized brush cleanser or baby shampoo.
If you want to have a lot of color options on hand, definitely invest in a large palette, especially Sephora's Blockbuster palette (I wrote a post called 'Every Girl Needs' about it). Otherwise, buy little palettes at the drugstore from Maybelline, CoverGirl, etc and experiment with colors. Once you find colors that you believe are flattering, beautiful, and fun to wear, you can buy those shades from higher-end companies such as Stila and MAC. This also applies to blush, but Nars or Sephora would be better higher-end companies to try in the case of blush. For bronzer, of the ones I've tried, I've only liked Physican's Formula. For lipstick, a classic red is wonderful - NYC and Wet 'N Wild have great red lipsticks and lip liners! If you want other colors, experiment with L'Oreal and then buy those lipsticks from companies like MAC or Chanel. With lip gloss, I would say to try Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush tubes and Revlon lip gloss; Lancome Juicy Tubes and Dior Addict gloss are higher-end options. Maybe you'll even love some of the drugstore brands enough to not feel a need to try something more expensive!
For brows, Anastasia is THE best brand to use. I wouldn't recommend anything else... well, maybe Tweezerman tweezers, but otherwise Anastasia covers your brow shaping and maintenance needs.
Hope that helps!

I will second the Sonia Kashuk (sp?) brushes. I love mineral makeup, so I would suggest that. It's easy to even out your skintone with quickly and you don't have to blend as much as you would with liquid foundation. I use Physician's Formula organic powdered foundation, and it's only like $11 for a lot. I'm allergic to Bare Minerals because it contains Bismouth Oxychloride (skin irritant), and contrary to popular belief, isn't all natural...that and the brushes are crap and shed everywhere!!! Philosophy The Supernatural is also a great mineral foundation. If you really want to get splurgy, SK-II Airflash or Dior skin Airflash are amazing. Laura Mercier and Makeup Forever have great powders, I agree. Most of their makeup is great.
Smashbox photofinish is a must- it makes makeup last a long time and fights off shine. Mac makes great shadows as well!!!
Don't splurge on lipglosses or mascara, they are all pretty much made the same. Splurge on your main skin concern like foundation, powder and eyeshadows, really cheap eyeshadows will not last long as they are usually not highly pigmented and chalky. Urban Decay makes a great eyeshadow primer for holding it in place!
HTH!

@two_days_until_forever - omg wow thanks. i must keep note of this. i'm so lucky i found some of my old brushes. i didn't realize how expensive they were!
there are going on my christmas list lol! i'm hoping the palette i'm getting is more than just shimmery.

I love Urban Decay Makeup. It is so expensive, but it is my favorite.
also check out medusasmakeup.com
I bought a set of eyeshadow brushes on there for pretty cheap .... like $30 and they work very well. And their make up is awesome too.
